Solo Euphonium

I started playing tenor horn at the age of 7 in my local primary school and Music Centre in Oldham. After primary school I knew I wanted to play the euphonium and changed as soon as I could. A few years into playing the euphonium in the Oldham Music Centre Youth Brass Band I realised that I wanted to move on. At this point, I was only 14 years old and just looked for another youth band in the area. I came across Dobcross Youth Band. Dobcross Youth Band has a very good flow of young players coming in and out. I knew that it was the place for me and joined on second euphonium. After a couple of years I decided to look at Dobcross Silver Band, the senior band. They had a solo euphonium seat available and I went down for a try. At the age of 16 I was playing for Dobcross Silver Band (2nd Section at the time) on solo euphonium and I was proud to play with them. Playing for the Silver Band were the years that really made me the player I am today. The leap from the Youth to Silver Band at Dobcross made me work so hard both physically and mentally with my playing. These were the years that made me know that I wanted to do music as a career and especially euphonium playing. I spent 3 years at Dobcross Silver through the rough and the smooth until I moved to university.

In September 2016, I started at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). For the first few months I didn't have a band and I was missing it. This is when I saw VBS Poynton were looking for a solo euphonium player. After the amazing 2016 they had I thought I'd ask if I could come down for a try out. I played, the band wanted me and I've been sat on the Solo Euphonium chair ever since.
