Emma started playing trumpet age 9 and was initially taught by Nicky Longden (Flugel Horn at Leyland). Under the tutorage of Nicky, she achieved  the Associated Board Grades 2 to 5 (Grade 6 being achieved on cornet) At age 11 she joined the school band at Chapel-en-le-Frith High School (conducted by Sheila Walton!!) During this period Emma participated in various band tours -  France 1991, Italy 1994 and Germany 1997.

In 1991 she made the move to cornet and joined the Chapel-en-le-Frith Town Band where she played under a number of MD's, namely Gordon Booth, Geoff Bradley, Peter Christian and Alan Wycherley.

Whilst at  Chapel she saw the band progress from 4th to 2nd section,and played in over 40 contests, 5 National Finals including the finals at the Albert hall in 2000.

Emma joined Silk Brass in November 2001, and played with them until November 2010 where she took the opportunity for a new challenge with VBS (Poynton).
