Sam Myers
Bass Trombone
My journey in music started at the age of 11 with drums during secondary school after watching videos of Roger Taylor playing with Queen. I soon after joined Denton Brass on percussion and Denton training band on Ebb and Bbb bass. During my time with Denton, I sat on most of the lower brass seats before settling on solo trombone. This soon led to bass trombone when I went to college and found myself playing most of the bass trombone parts (because I was the only one that could read the parts).
After college, I studied performance and arranging at the University of Salford under the guidance of Dr. Brett Baker, Les Storey, Tom Davoren and Dan Price for which I graduated with a 1st Class Honours Degree. This was the time I spent developing my playing the most as I was playing tenor trombone, bass trombone, Ebb bass and Bbb bass across the University of Salford Brass Band, the Adelphi Brass Band, the University of Salford Symphonic Wind Band and the University of Salford Big Band.
My time at the University of Salford paid off as during my final year I got the opportunity to perform in several concerts with the Black Dyke Band. I have also performed on BBC radio 4 for the Christmas broadcast and alongside musicians such as: Peter Moore, Glenn Van Looy and James Fountain.
